Flexicon has supplied flexible conduit to protect cabling on Network Rail’s fleet of leaf cleaning multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs). It is vital that these vehicles remain fully operational throughout autumn and winter to avoid train delays due to leaves on the line. The MPVs carry different modules with several types of equipment to remove compacted leaves from the lines. These specialist vehicles are deployed across the rail network. They work continuously throughout the season pumping high-pressure water jets onto the track to remove compacted leaves and return it to bare steel. The vehicles can also apply Sandite, a grainy gel like material that improves track adhesion. Power cables run along both the outside of the vehicles and also within the modules. They need protecting from an extremely harsh environment that includes water ingress, abrasion and debris from the track. Flexicon has supplied its IP66 rated FPAH conduit system to Network Rail through Newey & Eyre. This conduit has a high mechanical and impact strength and is resistant to abrasion, solvents and oils, and ultraviolet light. It is also manufactured from a low fire hazard material to meet Rail Fire Performance Standards. For further information about Flexicon’s range of flexible conduit please contact:
